Calibrate a display for high fidelity without costly hardware
New monitor calibration software with advanced controls

/Graphic Design News Articles/ - June 01, 2008 - Being a photographer or designer, you've no doubt noticed that what you see in reality and on your display are quite different. Much of this is due to the fact that your display is not calibrated. If you care about high fidelity of your monitor but cannot afford to buy a $300 hardware calibrator, there's a very clever piece of software called Atrise Lutcurve. Once it calibrates your display, the results are amazing to watch.

Atrise Software today announces the immediate availability of Atrise Lutcurve 1.0, a unique software tool for calibrating LCD and CRT displays without any hardware calibrator. The calibration process takes into account several factors and allows you to fine tune the fidelity of the display to achieve these desirable values: Gamma — 2.2, White Point — 6500K, Luminance Level — 80 cd/m2, Color Space — sRGB.

Having the software calibrator like Atrise Lutcurve offers a number of advantages. Firstly, it's the price. There is no doubt professional hardware calibrators are the best in every way except when it comes to their price tag. Atrise Lutcurve is a software alternative to calibrating that won't burn holes in your pockets. Secondly, the program, unlike freeware software tools, ensures highly precise calibration, which is typical of hardware. For example, gamma correction utilities can only bend the gamma curve to make the monitor display an image with an accurate gamma value. Atrise Lutcurve lets you correct nonlinearity of the display, especially noticeable on LCD monitors. The count of calibration points is not limited, which means you can calibrate even an aging display. Thirdly, if you expect to add a second or third monitor, Atrise Lutcurve is also a good choice as it can calibrate multiple monitors. You can even set up your displays to show the same colors. The quality of the calibration depends on your carefulness and may be very approximate to hardware calibration results.

Atrise Lutcurve 1.0 runs on Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, 2003, x64, Vista, Vista x64 and available immediately as a free trial version from http://www.atrise.com. The product starts at $45 (US).
